There will be an Ocean Exploration session at the Ocean Sciences 2010
meeting, February 22-26th in Portland, Oregon, IT11 (see below). Abstracts
are due by October 15th, 2009 [23:59 Eastern]. We
welcome abstracts from all interested parties and particularly encourage those who have received Ocean Exploration funding to submit
their abstracts. As one of the newest and most exciting topics at AGU
in recent years, we hope to be a highlight of the meeting. A robust
turnout can only help to increase the emphasis, influence and future
growth of investigations at the oceans frontiers. Please submit your
abstracts today!
With 95% of the ocean unknown or little known, ocean exploration is an emerging (or re-emerging) discipline in oceanography that is interdisciplinary and global in scope. Data and observations resulting from ocean exploration activities often result in new discoveries, new insight, new knowledge and new frontiers and can lead to the revision of existing paradigms or the formulation of new paradigms in the oceans poorly known and unknown regions. Aided by new technologies and multi-disciplinary collaborations, exploration occurs in all three spatial dimensions and the time domain. This session will highlight the technology, science and expeditions that explore ocean, coastal and Great Lakes environments. Results can be from any branch of marine science or technology and may include serendipitous observations from moorings, fixed platforms, research cruises, or designated exploration activities.
1) All special sessions are listed on
http://www.agu.org/meetings/os10/program/scientific_session_search.php
2) While AGU typically gets 2/3 of all submissions in the last week before the deadline, OE would like to invite you (participants / authors) to submit early to avoid potential complications or system "crunches" as the deadline is approaching.
3) The deadline for electronic abstract submission is October 15th [23:59 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)]. More information about the submission process, registration, visas, etc. can be found at http://www.agu.org/meetings/os10/program/abstract_submissions.php
Feel free to contact one of us if you need more information about these, sessions. We hope to see you in Portland!
Sincerely,
Nicolas Alvarado and
